Toe the Line
Nearly 40,000 Michigan youth will drop out of high school this year, but only 139 of these at-risk youth will be invited to receive a second chance and change their life, forever.

The Michigan Youth Challenge Academy, or MYCA, is a no-cost, voluntary residential program designed to provide a comprehensive education to at-risk youth with low educational attainment. Youth that have dropped out of high school or are at-risk of dropping out voluntarily attend the academy in hopes of permanently changing their lives for the better. For many youth, MYCA represents their last chance to gain academic proficiency and life-skills before facing incarceration or a lifetime of reliance on governmental assistance programs.

Toe the Line is a new documentary experience showing the transformative process of transitioning to adulthood through commitment, mentorship and education. The documentary brings the youth?s internal conflict to screen by interviewing the main characters in their hometowns before they leave for the academy, as well as using first-person GoPro cameras to view the academy through their eyes.

In a gripping, character-driven format, Toe the Line follows the cadets? journey as they cease destructive behavior, including smoking, violence, and drug use while preparing to grow as adults and move forward in today?s competitive society.
