The Leonora Carrington Project

The Leonora Carrington Project
The vicious whims of war drove Leonora Carrington from Europe. Mexico took her in, as if waiting for her, like the missing part of a soul. In 1942 Leonora was already recognized as one of the most prominent surrealist artists. But her move to this unknown country brought an unimaginable depth and exploration to her work. For it was in Mexico, that the Celtic myths of her childhood met the magic of indigenous cultures ? the shamans of one land freely commingled with the White Goddess, playing out their stories on her canvasses and pages of her books. It has been 68 years since Leonora and Mexico adopted each other and at 93, the magic continues.

Sadly, Leonora passed away May 25, 2011. She lived 94 fascinating years.
