TAMMY JO
THE FILM TAMMY JO
Set in the Appalachian Mountains in the center of the Bible Belt, Tammy Jo is a film about love, culture, family and the human spirit. When a professional man?s dream to teach school is confronted with a child?s broken home, the failures of the school system bring these two unlikely characters together, just as it tears them apart in the film?s heart wrenching conclusion.

?A gut-wrencher. One of the best short scripts I?ve seen. ? -Larry King
?A brilliantly written short with the impact of a Shakespearean tragedy.?
? Bob Hofler, Variety

BEHIND THE MAKING OF TAMMIE JO
Tammie Jo is a film created to add to a limited body of cinematic works that explore Appalachian culture, but more importantly is written to bring special attention to the urgent issue of child abuse and neglect. A major component of the film?s outreach will include collaborations with leading, national non-profit agencies that address child abuse, public awareness campaigns, and media outreach to educate the public about this critical societal issue. The staggering numbers alone speak for themselves:
o A report of child abuse is made every ten seconds
o Almost five children die everyday as a result of child abuse. More than three out of four are under the age of 4.
o It?s estimated that between 60 to 85% of child fatalities are due to maltreatment and not recorded as such on death certificates.
o 90% of child sexual abuse victims know the perpetrator in some way; 68% are abused by family members.
o Child abuse occurs at every socioeconomic level, across ethnic and cultural lines, within all religions and at all levels of education.
