STILL DREAMING
STILL DREAMING is a new feature documentary in progress by the filmmaking team that brought you "Shakespeare Behind Bars", the Sundance film that won 11 awards on the festival circuit and that has been broadcast around the world. STILL DREAMING is Co-directed and Co-produced by Hank Rogerson and Jilann Spitzmiller of Philomath Films (505-466-3247), and shot by cinematographer Shana Hagan.

STILL DREAMING is the story of the high stakes return to the stage by a group of elder entertainers residing at the Lillian Booth Actors Home just outside Manhattan. These retirees embark on a comedic, sometimes tragic and always entertaining romp through ?A Midsummer Night?s Dream?. As the elders explore the pain and exhilaration of meaningful engagement in the creative process amidst the vagaries of old age, the troupes? two young up-and-coming co-directors struggle to maintain forward momentum within the realities of an over-80 acting ensemble, which include memory loss, disability, and a very healthy does of mischief.

Despite the tremendous challenges, this determined group of elders works through their fears and takes a leap of faith into what might be their last performance. It is obvious to see that whatever has brought them to the Home has not completely robbed them of their talent and creative magic. Their spirits open up and thrive with this new endeavor. After 6 weeks of rocky rehearsals, they pull off two vibrant performances for friends and family. Audiences witness an entirely original look at one of theatre?s classic plays. Many of the players are deeply rewarded and surprised by what they collectively accomplish at the end of 6 eventful weeks. Several participants have their medications decreased; others demonstrate increased self-esteem and improved disposition; and there is a marked strengthening of community, not just within the cast, but throughout the entire home.

Ultimately, STILL DREAMING asks very frank questions about what should be asked of senior citizens and what they should ask of themselves. It asks the question whether or not creativity is an essential human endeavor, even in old age. It asks about the value of community and intergenerational endeavors. It provokes reflection on a very personal level, as well as on a cultural and societal level, about the wellbeing of our elders and of our own future selves.

STILL DREAMING is currently in the early stages of post-production and is very grateful for your generous support! Please contact Jilann at Philomath Films if you have any questions at jilann@philomathfilms.com or at 505-466-3247. Thank you!
